Message from El Jefe: Upcoming Events and Schedules

February 28, 2009 07:25 PM

I have consolidated the home tennis schedule for all of the Spring teams. They are on the attached schedules for day and night teams respectively.  Spring teams are hosting forty-two (42) visiting adult or senior teams from the tri-county area.  If you have an opportunity, you might share that with your elected representatives at the city and council level.  These are adults and senior teams that love to visit our antique mall downtown.
Also, I have attached a schedule of practice times from the captains who have regular practice schedules. I recommend that the night captains check the Colleton High School and Colleton Prep schedules for overlaps.  On the days that your matches overlap, you might want to advise the visiting captain that your match could be running late and consider starting at 6:30 or 7:00 versus 6:00.
On Saturday, the 21st of March, all three senior teams have matches scheduled at Forest Hills. There are two matches at 9:00 AM followed by one at 11:00 AM.  Christy Martin plans to have a March of Dimes fund raising tournament on that same day.  The tournament would most likely start as soon as courts are open from the early matches since the senior teams only use three courts each.  More information will be provided as we get closer to the date.
We are working with the USTA to use their main computer to host a WTA web site.  We have been working on it since Oct. It was not supposed to take this long but since it is a free service, we are trying to wait it out.  In the meantime, the Colleton County Recreation Department is getting ready to start up a web site that will have links to all Colleton recreation opportunities.  As soon as this site gets on line, we will begin posting tennis stuff there.
And most importantly, we have reserved the Coastal Outback building for the evening of March 21st to hold our annual WTA business meeting beginning at 6 PM.  Please put that date and time on your calendar. We are going to try to have Recreation Department or County Officials there to talk about the plans for renovation or new construction at the Forest Hills Tennis Center.
