LCTA Volunteers Needed for Family Circle Cup

I have two different opportunities for people to volunteer to work at the Family Circle Cup. Please read below.

Opportunity One: Working in the USTA tent. For the past several years, the USTA has asked the LCTA to staff the USTA Membership Tent at the Family Circle Cup, and we are getting the opportunity to do so again. This is an easy task (selling a few memberships and answering questions), but it gives the LCTA an important presence as well as recognition with USTA/SC, Southern and USTA for our efforts. Each day, we have four shifts, one person per shift.

In return for working a shift, the person will receive a ticket to attend the Family Circle Cup all that day, and will also have a Stadium seat for the entire day (i.e., both day and night sessions when there are two sessions). It is certainly a great way to see great tennis at the cost of a few hours of work.

So, if you are interested in helping out in the USTA tent, please get back to me as soon as possible at peifferr@musc.edu. Be sure to include which of the slots (see below) you would like to volunteer for. Needless to say, the more flexible you are, the easier it is for me to work you into the schedule.

I gave people who worked in the tent last year the first opportunity to volunteer this year. As a result, there are not a lot of slots remaining, and I will fill them on a first-come, first served basis. So, get your response in early. I will also put some people on a waiting list in case I get last minute cancellations.

  • Monday, 4/13 from 1:45 to 4:30
  • Monday, 4/13 from 4:15 to 7:00
  • Thursday, 4/16 from 2:45 to 5:30
  • Thursday, 4/16 from 12:15 to 3:00
  • Friday, 4/17 from 5:15 to 8:00
  • Saturday, 4/18 from 8:45 to 10:45
  • Saturday, 4/18 from 12:15 to 2:15

Opportunity Two: Handing out giveaways. On Wednesday, April 15, we will be handing out tennis tips booklets to people as they come onto the grounds at the main gate. We have about 5,000 booklets to give away. We will have five two hour shifts with two people working each shift. The shifts will be 9-11, 11-1, 1-3, 3-5, and 5-7. In return for handing out the booklets, you will get a grounds pass for the entire day. That pass will not get you into the stadium<though it is often possible to see the stadium matches by standing in the entranceways. Again, please send me an email at peifferr@musc.edu and include your preferred shift.

Bob
